Imagine stepping into the cosy, aromatic haven of a community café nestled within the heart of Cricklewood. The scent of freshly ground coffee beans mingles with the sweet and spicy cakey aroomas, creating an irresistible invitation that beckons you to come closer. Now, picture yourself not just as a visitor, but as a volunteer barista, crafting these delightful experiences for your neighbours.
You might be seeking new ways to fill your days with purpose and joy. Volunteering as a barista offers the perfect blend of satisfaction and new skill development. Every cup of coffee you prepare becomes an opportunity to learn and grow, from mastering the art of creating the perfect espresso shot to frothing milk into a creamy, cloud-like consistency. The process is as rewarding as it is enjoyable, with each step providing a tangible sense of accomplishment.
But it’s not just about the coffee. It’s about the community. The café, located conveniently in the library, serves as a vibrant hub for Cricklewood’s residents. Here, you’ll meet people from all walks of life, each with their own story to share. You’ll find yourself building connections, one smile and one conversation at a time. The camaraderie among fellow volunteers and patrons alike fosters a sense of belonging and support that is truly heartwarming.
Imagine the satisfaction of seeing a regular’s face light up when you remember their favourite order, or the joy of a newcomer discovering their new go-to drink, thanks to your recommendation. These small moments of connection can brighten anyone’s day, including your own.
Full training will be given, and you can do this at your own pace. Please ask any barista for more details – they’ll be happy to advise, and to share what volunteering means to them. Alternatively, complete the volunteering form here and I’ll be in touch to discuss.

We’ve had to think about reducing our opening hours over the summer holidays to compensate for so many volunteers being away. Until the first week in September, we will now open on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday only. Our Thursday morning story time will resume in September, as will our Friday afternoon 7-11 year old book group, and we’ll be back to normal opening hours at that point. Watch out for signs at the library to keep you updated, or sign up to our newsletter for more details.
If you’d like to sign up as a volunteer, to help us stay open more hours, we’d love to have you. Please see our volunteer page for more details.

We’re hoping to extend our opening hours every week by offering a session on Fridays in the after school slot between 1500 and 1800. We’ve had a lot of demand from local parents and carers of school age children for more time for borrowing after school. At the moment it can be a bit rushed to get to the library after school and to have enough time to browse before borrowing. So we hope this slot will do that. It should also give people on the way home from work a chance to pop in too, with luck.
At the moment we don’t have enough volunteers to operate a cafe service at this time, but we’ll get there as soon as we can. In the meantime, we could always do with more volunteers – sign up here.

We’re starting an exciting new project in March. We’ll be training up to 10 volunteers to teach local residents how to access Zoom. The training will cover
- Overview of the Zoom interface (as a refresher and to make sure everyone is on the same page)
- Consideration for facilitation, safeguarding guidelines
- Creating invites
- Some of the common issues for helping other access Zoom.
Once trained, the volunteers will contact local people who would like to start using Zoom, to keep in touch with friends and family, or to enjoy our up-coming online programme of events. If you know of someone who could benefit from this training, get in touch! The training will help beneficiaries to overcome concerns and potential barriers faced, develop online skills, build confidence, become more independent, and do useful things like access online applications and services.
