November’s Last Friday – Anjela Abelian & Andrea Rinciari

Anjela Abelian & Andrea Rinciari

Stripped-back jazz with a unique blend of jazz vocal and guitar drawing inspiration from the timeless collaboration of Ella Fitzgerald and Joe Pass. During this special evening Anjela Abelian, Camden’s very own jazz/contemporary singer and songwriter, collaborates with the virtuoso jazz guitarist Andrea Rinciari, they perform a carefully curated mix of jazz standards and originals. Anjela will be also introducing her recent single – “It’s So Much Fun”.

Anjela Abelian – Camden based jazz/contemporary singer and songwriter. Deeply rooted in jazz tradition, she loves the purity of the song form in every musical style and seamlessly fuses her musical journey with contemporary nuances. She mastered vocals with Speech Level Singing school, and under the guidance of such voice gurus as Anita Wardell and Dr. Voice.Anjela started refining her songwriting craft during the pandemic, when she found solace in an international online community of songwriters, and one of her songs, “Strawberries”, went to the semi-final of the International Songwriting Competition. The track “Strawberries” was later released and gained international acclaim with widespread radio plays across Europe and the US.

Andrea Rinciari, a dedicated full-time jazz guitarist, had the privilege of learning from the legendary Barry Harris, greatly influencing his playing. With two successful album releases, Andrea’s guitar style is uniquely shaped around the influences of piano players, making pianistic choices on the guitar. His inspiration comes from jazz icons such as Bud Powell, Tadd Dameron, Elmo Hope, Freddie Redd, and Barry Harris, as well as non-pianist greats like Charlie Parker, Sonny Rollins, Sonny Stitt, Fats Navarro, and Clifford Brown, resulting in a distinctive approach to bebop-straight ahead jazz.

May’s Last Friday at the Library – Brent Jazz Orchestra with Beverley Stone

Our regular visitors Brent Jazz Orchestra Quartet are back again in May, this time with singer Beverley Stone. Since as long as she can remember Essex born Beverley has been immersed in popular music, starting with the Great American songbook interpreted by the likes of Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole and Billie Holiday. Contemporary artists such as Carol King and Madonna have also had major influences. The key has always been the combination of melody, musical arrangement, emotion, and the story to be told – the more soul searching the better. Her professional adventure started after leaving her 9-5 job and taking on a singing engagement on the high seas. Her deep love of singing and performing was discovered and her future mapped out.

Since then she has travelled to many parts of the world, appeared on British television, and secured long term residencies at prestigious central London venues. More than happy working as a jazz singer with small groups or fronting a swinging big band, Beverley has performed at some of the finest venues in the land including Ronnie Scotts, the 606 Club, Pizza Express Soho, The Hideaway, Bateaux River Cruises, The Wellesley, The Hippodrome and The Forum.

Whilst cultivating her song writing career she has worked with some of the country’s foremost musicians and producers, and her debut album Butterfly Rising is available to buy on iTunes. Her passion for all things singing has in recent years been extended to the field of vocal coaching and guiding individuals who need help in exposing hidden talent.

What to Expect This Evening

There will be a donations bar, and pizzas, served in the interval, can be ordered in advance. If you don’t see the pizza you like on offer, requests are accepted. We order from Basilico. We have listened to your feedback and you can now order large or small pizzas. Pizza sales end the day before the concert to give us time to place the order.

Library Open Day

We’ve been open a while, so we think we’ve got the hang of this now.
With this in mind, we’re running an Open Day this Friday 3 June, where we’ll be showcasing lots of different activities that are on offer at the library. All of them will be ABSOLUTELY FREE to take part in, and there’s something for all the family to enjoy.

We are lucky to have funding for some of these activities from Local Giving and the Magic Little Grants fund.

Carols by Candlelight

We missed it last year, and we expect you did too. So we’ll be back this year and singing lustily. We’ll sing outside, as group singing generates a lot of exhaled breath and potentially germs! Then inside for a mince pie and a glass of something cheering.

Expect the usual mulled wine and mince pies. The perfect start to your Christmas season.

Download the songsheet we’ll be using to print at home or view on your mobile device – saves sharing!
